Message from the CEO

This year is progressing very quickly. There have been many changes here at Youth Solutions – we farewelled Rebecca Whitford after many years of excellent service to Youth Solutions.

We also welcome Tamara Casey, our new Program Service Delivery Coordinator who began working with us in March 2010. Tamara has many years experience in the youth drug and alcohol field.

Our Finance Officer Nina Blair has moved to Queensland with her family, and she has been replaced by Chelsea Robinson.

Despite these many changes you will see that the Youth Solutions team is charging forward with many exciting programs and events.

Youth Solutions Youth Advisory Group (YAG)

New Youth Advisory Group gives teens the opportunity to be heard. Youth Solutions is pleased to promote the recent establishment and launch of the YAG for young people 15 - 25 years old in the Macarthur and Wingecarribee regions. This new and exciting program is for young people who want to make a difference by giving them the chance to have input into our programs and gain knowledge and skills in different areas.

National Youth Week

Safer Celebrations and the Safe and Pretty Program were two very popular and well received events that Youth Solutions ran during National Youth Week. Fourteen young people from the Wollondilly area participated in the Safer Celebrations workshop and seven young females from the Camden area participated in the Safe and Pretty two day program.

The Safe and Pretty Program was funded by Camden Council, Youth Solutions and About Face Hair and Beauty. This program provided the seven participants aged 14 – 18 years with the opportunity to develop their confidence and knowledge in job application processes for entering the hair and beauty workforce. Participants also learnt hair and beauty skills and technique as well as increased awareness of personal safety issues.

100% of the Safe & Pretty participants would recommend this program to other young women and general comments included: “I have gained skills in the hair and beauty environment and also learnt how to keep safe”.
 

Golf Day Success

A great time was had by all at The Protectors Insurance Brokers 2010 Charity Golf Day, with $20 000 being raised for Youth Solutions. David Michell and his team have held this event for 9 years with Youth Solutions as the beneficiary, raising $145 000.

Y_Mind? Inspiring Mental Health resource launch

Y_Mind? An innovative Youth Mental Health education resource developed by Youth Solutions and funded by the IMB Community Foundation will be launched on June 30. If you would like to purchase the resource or for more information contact Youth Solutions 4628 2319.

AnnanROMA The Flavours of Macarthur Food and Wine Festival

The Flavours of Macarthur Food and Wine Festival was buzzing with people and fantastic aromas on Sunday 18 April.

It was a great day for the team at Youth Solutions who set up an interactive stall giving away over 200 resources and conducting a standard drink pouring activity. Participants learnt the exact measurements for a standard beer, wine and spirits, to raise awareness of binge drinking and other alcohol related harms. It was a fun way for participants to test their accuracy and knowledge.
